Paul Daniells & Cheri Mahovsky - Ballroom Showdance

Showdance

A Fusion of Ballroom and Theatre Arts

Paul Daniells and Cheri Mahovsky formed their partnership in October 2010, and quickly developed a new Ballroom Showdance style all their own. Taking elements from their extensive backgrounds in International competitive Ballroom dancing, American Style smooth and Latin-American rhythms, plus elements of theatre arts, adagio, argentine tango, flamenco, ballet and jazz, Cheri and Paul created an unusual fusion ballroom style.

Paul Daniells & Cheri Mahonsky - Showdance Waltz

Their first performance was at the bi-annual Erie Festival of Dance, where their Waltz to the music Moongate included international ballroom figures, elements of old-time ballroom and theatre arts lifts, all set in classic romantic story of "boy meets girl". The dance illustrates a couple's first chance meeting, first dance together, how they fall in love, they are briefly separated, then they grow back together with a stronger love, experience life together with all its high points, and finally the sad parting we all must face at the end.

The next performance by Cheri and Paul was very different, and to make it more appealing to the young audience at the Tom Ridge Center the theme of the dance was "Harry Potter". Harry Potter's best friend Hermione was turned into a snake by the evil Lord Voldemort and after issuing the challenge to Harry of "So you think you can dance? - then dance with a snake" Harry proceeded to Tango with Hermione using the special "Terpsichorum" spell. Aside from all of that, the showdance tango was a combination of Argentine Tango, International Ballroom, American Smooth and out-and-out showmanship (...showladyship..). They also perform a more standard rendition of this dance (Harry Potter costumes are optional, but the snake outfit is very much a part of the dance) Well, it has to be Tango if you are snake - a snake doing a Cha Cha Cha would just be silly!

Other showdances that are available are a breath-taking romantic Bolero, a cheeky Cha Cha Cha to some Tom Jones music, a striking classic Paso Doble and a fun Quickstep with a twist. More dances are in the works.
